When either of the folder aliases or file aliases boxes are checked, it appears to the owner as if an alias has been replaced by the item that the alias refers to.

Remember that when aliases are followed, they can't be moved or manipulated directly. Turning this option off for the owner allows aliases to be moved or copied remotely.
